Frequently Asked Questions About College Hour
Q. How do I register for College Hour?
A. All full-time, traditional undergraduate students will be automatically registered each semester for College Hour. Part-time students may also register (at the beginning of the semester), but only full-time students are required to register.
Q. What about part-time students?
A. If a student moves from being a part-time (PT) student to a full-time (FT) student during the semester, they will automatically be registered in College Hour. If a student moves from FT to PT, they will automatically be dropped from College Hour, but may add it back if they wish.
Q. How can I check my attendance?
A. Students may check their College Hour attendance through Campus Cruiser.
Q. How do I get credit for College Hour?
A. Students must attend at least 14 College Hours in a semester to be awarded a "Credit" grade.
Important: The last day of classes is the last day to accumulate College Hour credits for any fall or spring semester (not the last day of final exams). Notice of the last day to fulfill requirements will be included in regular College Hour communications.
Q. What if I can't attend all of the programs?
A. Students may listen to College Hour (up to four per semester) to make up for attendance missed during the semester. After listening to a session (available at the library or online), students must submit a one-page, typed report summarizing and responding to the program. All reports must be submitted to the College Hour office no later than the last day of classes.
Incompletes: Students may request incompletes according to current college policy (i.e. only when serious circumstances beyond the student's control prevent completion). The instructor will submit to the dean of student life a request for final approval for those requests that meet this standard.
Q. How many units can I get from College Hour?
A. A maximum of 4 units may be used towards graduation. Students will be registered for College Hour every semester of full-time enrollment, even if a given 1/2 unit may not be used toward graduation (similar to choir or athletic students who may be registered for units which exceed limits for graduation requirements).
Students may not register for more than 1/2 a unit of College Hour per semester, nor may College Hour be audited. College Hour is only offered during fall and spring semesters. (In other words, no "make-up" summer registrations are offered.)
